IX European Congress of Mammalogy (ECM9)
- 31 March - 04 April 2025
A Warm Invitation to ECM9
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It is our pleasure to invite you to the IX European Congress of Mammalogy (ECM9), which will take place in the vibrant city of Patras, Greece, from March 31 to April 4, 2025. This event is proudly organised by the Hellenic Zoological Society, the European Mammal Foundation, and Mammal Conservation Europe.
As the largest city in the Peloponnese, Patras offers a unique blend of modern life and rich history, influenced by centuries of cultural diversity. Its stunning coastal setting and lively atmosphere make it the perfect backdrop for a gathering of mammalogists from across Europe and beyond.
The five-day congress will provide a comprehensive platform to explore a wide array of topics within mammalian biology. From Genetics, Evolution, and Phylogeography, to Conservation Biology, Population Dynamics, and the impact of Climate Change to Urban Ecology, Human-Mammal Interactions, Zoonoses, and cutting-edge methodologies for mammal monitoring, the congress will delve into all aspects of mammal science.
This congress is more than just a chance to share the latest scientific advances—it’s an opportunity to strengthen collaboration, build lasting connections, and enjoy the company of colleagues and friends from around the world. Whether you’re attending to present new research, discuss conservation strategies, or explore innovative solutions to modern challenges, we are confident that ECM9 will offer a rewarding and memorable experience.
We hope you will join us in Patras for a dynamic exchange of ideas, knowledge, and passion for mammal conservation.
Looking forward to welcoming you in Patras, Greece!

About
Historically, the European Congress of Mammalogy (ECM) is a by-product of the publication of
the first Atlas of European Mammals in 1999 by the Societas Europaea Mammalogica (SEM)
(which was transformed into the European Mammal Foundation (EMF) in 2018). During the
preparation of this Atlas (1988-1999), the idea came up to start organizing a mammalogical
congress in Europe. The first ECM was organized in Lisbon (Portugal) in 1991, followed by
Southampton (UK, 1995), Jyväskylä (Finland, 1999), Brno (Czech Republic, 2003), Siena (Italy,
2007), Paris (France, 2011), Stockholm (Sweden, 2015) and Warsaw (Poland, 2019).
The European Mammal Foundation is currently preparing the 2nd edition of the Atlas of
European Mammals, due to be published in 2025.
